Headteacher's Welcome

On behalf of the pupils, Governors and staff I would like to welcome you to Hill Park School.  I hope that our website gives you an overview of what we can offer your child in terms of development as a learner and a person.

We are very proud of our school, which places outstanding learning for our pupils as our priority and vision. We offer two curriculums: the statutory National Curriculum and a separate 'life curriculum'. Learning for us is not solely academic knowledge and skills, but also managing behaviour, emotions, social skills and personal independence.

Please see our Curriculum Framework for more detailed information on our Curriculum.

We meet the learning needs of a range of pupils, from those with profound learning difficulties and physical disabilities to pupils with moderate learning disabilities who gain Entry Level Qualifications and BTEC awards in their Secondary years. All of this is delivered in a socially inclusive way that reflects the society we all want.

We achieve this through organising the pupils into classes with differing and specialist learning environments that meet the learning and physical needs of the pupils.  Pupils benefit from personalised learning targets which enables all to make the maximum progress with their learning and development.

We view a place for your child as a place for the family, and supporting all of you is also hugely important to us. We do this through offering support with behaviour, toileting, sleep and communication in collaboration with therapists and the School Nurse. We aim always to be approachable, sensitive and non-judgemental as we know how challenging having a child with additional needs can be for the whole family.

Hill Park has three sites, a Primary and Secondary on Foredown Road, Portslade and The Hive, another Secondary site, in Lynchets Close, Hollingdean. In Portslade, the Primary school site for pupils aged YR-Y6 is led by Hannah Bowry and the Secondary school site for students aged  Y7-Y11 is led By Clare Langhorne. The Hive, for autistic secondary aged students with high anxiety and sensory needs but who are working at mainstream levels,  is led by Linda Williams

My role as Executive Head is to oversee the Primary and Secondary sites, and The Hive at Hollingdean.

We all take very seriously the trust you place in us when you send your child to Hill Park, and we work hard to be a reflective, aspirational team with the aim for excellence every day.

Executive Head Teacher
